- In the can, use imersion blender until tomatoes are medium smooth.
- Slice onion into half inch thick rounds.
- Combine butter and oil in saucepan and heat over medium-low heat until butter is melted.
- Add garlic, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, and salt and cook while stirring frequently until fragrant.
- Add onion slices, sugar, and tomatoes to pan.
- Bring to simmer, reduce heat to lowest setting, and cook until reduced by half, stirring occasionally.
